I guess “Empowerment” in the Nigerian context has diverse meanings especially in each geopolitical region.
The meaning, however, depicts the alarming rate at which we keep losing grip on things that determines our survival or otherwise.

Year in year out, in their droves they organize petty ceremonies where the poverty and desperation for survival of the poor masses is feasted upon. And the masses, fools that we are, comes out to celebrate the people that feeds us with crumbs from our own baked bread.
The term empowerment according to Wikipedia and other similar authorities refers to measures designed to increase the degree of autonomy and self-determination in people and in communities in order to enable them to represent their interests in a responsible and self-determined way, acting on their own authority. All these Oyinbo people and big grammar. Come to my country and you will see what “empawament” means.
“Sai this, Sai that
Baba rere nii!! Gbefun baba
Na you Biko “
The only thing their sour mouths could ever mute hours after!!!
In the West, it is either motorcycles, tricycles, sewing machines, clippers and the likes!!! The grateful beneficiaries, product of a wrong and corrupt selection system!! No Padi for jungle abiii?? Baba Tuale! Shey ko wale?
In the North, not much is always heard about empowerment until lately that noodles, beverages, wheelbarrows, transistor radios, rubber slippers and most alarming goats are used to empower even students !!!
In the South and other similar regions, nobody has time to complain if something that should be done is not done. But in all sincerity, more of the empowerment in that area comes in form of scholarships and education grants. Yet, they don’t come so close to development.
No matter the form it comes, the more they claim to empower, the more powerless we become!!! Is this our own dividend of democracy? Does this trend apply in other civilized democratic settings in the world or this is just an evidence of our pettiness as a nation?
What is true empowerment??
What is empowerment in your own local area????
Let’s talk about it.
